Experience:

1988 to Present

Ballard Engineering Inc.

Title:  President

Tasks:  Power plant sales and system layout, coordinating sub-contractors   (specifications/bids/selection), permitting (local and State E.P.A.), managed AutoCAD personnel and project documents, design and purchasing of buildings, equipment specification (selection and purchasing), wrote and conducted Test Procedures and Training Classes.  Process Control,  programming and panel design.  HMI computer to machine interface design and installation.

Level of Responsibility:  Responsible for economic studies of projects, customer  interaction and presentation materials.  Over the last twenty five years, I have completed over 200 Feasibility Studies that evaluate the physical and economic impact of a power/cogeneration system.  Seventeen of these have resulted in the installation of a power/cogeneration system.  In addition I have also installed seventeen CHP power plants in multiple states and overseas totaling over 100 MW of on-site power production.

Engineering Decisions Made:  Electrical plans, control panel construction and installation supervision, mechanical system controls and monitoring systems, control systems and interface design, Purchasing, programming of environmental, process controllers and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems.

Design and Development Engineering:  Developed WEB based modeling software to aid in determining the savings and operation of cogeneration systems in the deregulation market utilizing the independent system operator (PJM, MISO) data and historical site specific data on an hour by hour basis. This includes real time monitoring of power index market and automatic notification to customers of when to operate their power plants.

Designed and Built a Solar Thermal 170,000 btu / hour collection /control / heating / cooling  system, and 12.5 kw photovoltaic system for Winnebago County’s “ Freedom Field” located at the Rock River Water Reclamation District.  Designed and managed the installation of two 1 kw solar system (stationary and tracking).

Arc Flash and Thermal Imaging:  Marketing, and conducting Arc Flash studies and Thermal photography, for purpose of Electrical Safety NFPA 70E.
